I compose in Logic but always deliver my stems in ProTools. Different producers have different needs, preferences, and ways of doing things in the studio and when working with audio and using music recording software. The industry needs a standard so that everyone can exchange songs and work efficiently. That, and then theres the science behind it. Logic Pro Studio One Reaper Cubase Reason Bitwig Studio Pro Tools Best Free DAWs Many producers think that their way of making music is the best way to do it. point being: if you manage to cancel out a mix completely, that proves the point that the basic sound is the same, and all examples where its not are just examples of people not being able to do these tests right. So far, whenever i did or witnessed a professional test such as these, the usual result was that people were able to cancel out the two mixes to a complete null eventually - usually only after checking lots of little details (is dithering active here, is it inactive there, does the mix include any plugins that have unsynced LFOs or randomization in their algorithm like modulation effects or reverb, do we dither the result to a linear format or do we stay float)…whatever. mismatching levels (fader readouts arent necessarily the same for all programs), forgetting about pan law, you name it. but these tests usually have operator errors of their own. EVERY ONE OF THESE DAWS, can be edited to compensate for anything! Think its a bit thin? WIDEN IT! A lil too bright? DARKEN IT! E A S Y!ĭaw engines dont have a sound of their own. Who really gives a flying funky futon though…? Not me! This kind of debate is completely pointless, but is debated beyond exhaustion because people are insecure and consumerism runs DEEEP! Plus they are prolly tired of making crappy music, so they look for something to BLAME, other than the real culprit (themselves). A random test, uploaded to Youtube is FULL OF FLAWS and unable to be “analyzed”, regardless of gullible interpretation. What if, the creator of that “test”, secretly added a few plugins here n there, to alter the sound slightly and fool gullible people like you? You could be a victim of a trolling!! Perhaps WE are the victims here though…lol DO THE TEST YOURSELF. And the truth is, this difference in focus is probably going to determine which program you choose. It is a massive upgrade and for the better in my opinion adding the much needed VCA groups and better workflow.I find Cubase is great for composing and great for recording a band if you have enough inputs to get all the drums the first pass. There are things that affect that perception/interpretation though (eyes, thoughts, beliefs). The biggest difference between Cubase and Pro Tools is the focus. I'm a Cubase user, just recently moved to Cubase 8.5 from Cubase 5 a few weeks ago. Your brain is programmed to perceive/interpret, period. So my brain is programed to hear cubase as the worst among them !! ?
